Research into Chosen Genre

The genre I have chosen to go into is Pop. The reason I have decided to go into this genre is because I feel that this genre is the best for me to make a music video to, this is because Pop has the same type of target audience that I wish to target when creating my own music video. I prefer the Pop industry as I feel that this industry will always remain relevant and there lots and lots of different type of inspiration. Re-creating a Pop video is also very interesting because I can add lots of relevant things into the video and i can also add lots of colour. In Pop video's there is always a very relevant story to what is going on in modern society. Pop video's also most commonly have a very high production value to encourage the audience to watch and keep watching the video. This is because Pop video's usually include the artist which is good promotion for the artist and the record label especially with the increasing use of social media.

The Pop industry relies mostly on the popularity from their audience to keep the audience in the public eye and continuing to bring in revenue for the record label .e.c.t. From the use of props and the sets Pop video's use, you are able to see that they have spent a lot of money on the production of the video. Pop music is usually advertised and targeted towards the younger generations like teens, twenties and thirties. I feel this is because Pop artists are in more of the spot light for tv, social media, online e.c.t. This means that these ages are more susceptible to these artist because they are more prevalent in their day-to-day lives. The big budget can't always be seen through the use of costume, but can be used on things like the production of the video for example; location, post-production, props e.c.t.  Taylor's- 'Look What You Made Me do' Video was filled with lots and lots of Objects and symbolisation of money for example; The bath filled with diamonds. These diamonds are all REAL, transported from celebrity jeweller Neil Lane. Later telling in an interview with the Independent, that he "had to go to the vault for this one" gave unprecedented access to Taylor an her team to use the jewels in her video with an estimated price tag of around $11,000,000 dollars.

Money can also be spent in a different way for example, Adele's- 'Send My Love' music video. She has decided to spend the bulk of the money on the post production of the video. She is seen throughout the video in a pretty plane outfit on her own with a black back drop. However, The post-production team have edited the video so multiple different angles and camera sequences play at the same time. Giving the video a type of 3D effect which isn't a common style of a music video as I personally haven't seen this done before. By adding this effect on this would have taken lots an lots of time and would have also cost quite a lot of money. Lastly, there are the common 'stereotypical' items that will show up in video for example; branded things like, Harley Davidson used in Demi Lovato's- Confident video, Diet Coke cans in Lady Gags's hair in- Telephone ft Beyonce, Beats Pill used in We Can't Stop- Miley Cyrus and things like Mobil Phones, Headphones e.c.t.

This is going to help me in making my own music video because it allows me to follow the norms and the actions that all take place to promote, advertise and create a pop music video. This will then hopefully allow me to create a successful video  that mirrors the norms of a pop music video that has previously been created.
